STATE Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications, General Mya Tun Oo, participated in the Naga Traditional New Year festival for 2024 in Leshi of Naga Self-Admin­istered Zone yesterday.

During his address, the Dep­uty Prime Minister highlighted the traditions, customs, and tradi­tional dances of the Naga people, showcased during the festival. He emphasized the importance of overcoming challenges with a sense of unity among ethnic groups, underscoring the govern­ment’s commitment to ensuring proportional development nation­wide, including in ethnic regions.

The Deputy Prime Minis­ter also discussed topics such as proper healthcare services in the Naga region, the responsibil­ities of government employees and local staff in enhancing the socioeconomic status of ethnic communities, agricultural mat­ters, and the development pro­grammes for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in addition to the agriculture and livestock breeding sectors.

Following this, the Deputy Prime Minister visited Leshi Peo­ple’s Hospital, where he provided foodstuff and cash assistance to medical staff, and interacted with local patients. He proceeded to in­spect a vocational training school for women and a training school dedicated to the development of youth from border areas, meeting with the staff and trainees of both institutions.

In the evening, he participat­ed in the Naga traditional bonfire, enjoying traditional dances. Ad­ditionally, he presented flower baskets and cash awards to the performers.

On 14 January, the Deputy Prime Minister attended sports competitions held as part of the Naga Traditional New Year fes­tival for 2024, awarding medals and cash prizes to the winners.
