The first-day meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives comprising the presidential electoral college was held in the Amyotha Hluttaw meeting hall of the Hluttaw Complex in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Lin Dwe announced that the meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives was duly constituted and commenced. The attendance status was then confirmed and recorded with the approval of the Hluttaw. The elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives conducted the nomination and seconding of vice-presidential candidates, and submitted the nomination forms to the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw.
During this process, the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives submitted Nomination Form 1 for vice-presidential candidates. Daw Nang Ni Ni Aye from the Kayin State Constituency 1 (PR System) was nominated by U Hla Thein from the Bago Region Constituency 2 (PR System), and seconded by U Shah Rel from the Kayah State Constituency 1 (FPTP System).
Dr Manam Tu Ja from the Kachin State Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency 2 (PR System) was nominated by U Than Aye (aka) U Tin Oo from the Taninthayi Region Constituency 1 (PR System), and seconded by U Saw Thwin from the Magway Region Constituency 1 (PR System) and U Ye Htut Aung from the Mon State Constituency 1 (PR System).
The Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker announced that the candidates nominated as vice-presidential candidates were Daw Nang Ni Ni Aye from the Kayin State Constituency 1 (Proportional Representation System) and Dr Manam Tu Ja from the Kachin State Amyotha Hluttaw Constituency 2 (Proportional Representation System).
The Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker announced that, as the scrutiny committee to verify whether the candidates meet the qualifications for the President must be composed of the Speakers and Deputy Speakers of both Hluttaws in the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, one Pyithu Hluttaw representative selected by the group of elected Pyithu Hluttaw representatives, one Amyotha Hluttaw representative selected by the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives, and one Defence Services Personnel Hluttaw representative selected by the group of Defence Services Personnel Hluttaw representatives, nomination forms were to be taken for the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives to propose a nominee to serve as a member of the scrutiny committee.
The group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives conducted the nomination and seconding of one elected Amyotha Hluttaw representative to serve on the scrutiny committee and submitted the nomination form to the Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw.
U Hla Thein from the Bago Region Constituency 2 (PR System) was nominated by U Aung Tin Myint from the Ayeyawady Region Constituency 1 (PR System), and seconded by U Ye Myint Tun from the Bago Region Constituency 4 (FPTP System).
The Speaker then announced that, since only one nominee was proposed, U Hla Thein from the Bago Region Constituency 2 (PR System) was selected as a member of the committee to scrutinize the qualifications for the President.
The first day meeting of the group of elected Amyotha Hluttaw representatives was adjourned, and the second day of the meeting will be held on 31 March. — MNA/KTZH
