UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 8 and 10 November, the combined teams impounded an unregistered Mitsubishi RVR, an unregistered Luojia 110 worth K7.3 million and a Hino Profia truck (worth approximately K100 million) carrying illegal teak weighing 11.824 tonnes valued at K6.5 million at Max highway tollgate in Taikkyi Township. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law and the Forest Law.
On 11 November, the combined teams conducted inspections and seized two trucks (worth approximately K70 million) carrying consumer goods, industrial materials and foodstuffs worth about K13.56 million without official documents near Shwethanlwin Tollgate in Phayagyi, an unregistered Honda Fit (estimated value of K9 million) in Bago Township and illegal teak weighing 2.257 tonnes worth about K1.67 million in Toungoo and Thayawady Districts. The action was carried out under the Export-Import Law, the Forest Law, and Customs procedures.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported ten arrests on 8, 10 and 11 November, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K208 million.
