YESTERDAY evening, the Myanmar delegation, led by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, met the deputy governor of Yunnan Province.
During the meeting, discussions focused on cooperation concerning the use of oil and natural gas transported through the Myanmar-China oil and gas pipeline in Yunnan. Topics included opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors in Yunnan’s energy sector to invest in Myanmar, engineering studies related to the energy industry, and encouraging Yunnan business owners to invest in Myanmar’s growing energy sector.
Further discussions also covered the upcoming Asian Oil & Gas Equipment Exhibition and Investment Forum for the Oil & Gas Sector, set to take place in Myanmar in 2025 in cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. Additionally, the Yunnan Provincial government expressed its willingness to grant aid for the construction of solar power plants in Yangon and Mandalay. Following the meeting, the deputy governor of Yunnan Province hosted a dinner for the delegation.
Earlier, on 13 November, the Myanmar delegation visited the PetroChina Yunnan Petrochemical Company refinery in Yunnan Province, which processes oil and natural gas sourced from the Myanmar-China pipelines. During the visit, the factory manager and officials provided an overview of manufacturing processes, quality control systems, factory maintenance procedures, and the use of advanced technology to prevent environmental damage.
They also discussed safety measures in place. Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin enquired about technical details and the possibility of offering practical training courses.
In the afternoon, the heads of Yunnan Construction Investment Holding Group Co Ltd (YCIH) and Yunnan Provincial Overseas Investment Co Ltd. (YOIC), both Chinese state-owned organizations, gave briefings on the upgrading of oil refineries, new expansion projects, and investment opportunities in the energy sector.
