Myanmar Gems Emporiums have been selling gems and jade since 1964 to earn foreign currencies for the State and boost the economy for citizens.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning attended the ceremony to open the 2024 Mid-Year Myanmar Gems Emporium at Maniyadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Senior General and attendees watched a video clip on preparations for the production of Myanmar’s pearl and jewellery items and, the holding of the 2024 Mid-Year Myanmar Gems Emporium.
They viewed round displays of jade, gems and pearl lots to be sold at the emporium at the Jade Hall and gave necessary guidance to officials.
The Senior General and party visited the sale of jewellery ornaments at private showrooms and displays of uncut jade lots outside the hall.
Also present at the opening ceremony were SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council members, Union ministers, Union-level dignitaries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, deputy ministers, departmental officials and gem merchants at home and abroad.
The government has been holding the Myanmar Gems Emporium since 1964 to sell gems and jade in order to earn foreign currencies for the State and boost the economy for citizens. The Mid-Year Gems Emporium will sell 280 lots of pearls, 160 lots of gems and 4,800 lots of jade to local and foreign gems merchants through an open tender system. These products will be sold in US$, euro, yuan, baht, kyat and foreign currencies accepted by the Central Bank of Myanmar under the disciplines. The emporium will last from 18 to 27 November.
The opening ceremony of the emporium was also attended by more than 4,500 gem merchants at home and abroad.
