Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn and Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan, accompanied by Deputy Ministers U Ye Tint, Daw Nu Mra Zan, U Htein Lin, U Zin Min Htet, and relevant departmental officials inspected the preparations for opening and closing events of the Fifth National Sports Festival at Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
They observed the lighting system, installation of LED, sound system and electrical bulbs, flag hanging of regions, states and ministries, entry and exit of performers and athletes, practice sessions of the free fall squad and torch relay.
During the inspection, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn provided proper instructions to complete preparedness in time and report to officials on difficulties and urged for active participation as it is a national-level occasion.
Union Minister U Min Thein Zan also coordinated the discussion. The first National Sports Festival was held in Yangon in 1992 featuring 22 sports, while the second time in 1994 in Yangon with 24 sports, the third time in 1997 in Yangon with 29 sports, the fourth in Nay Pyi Taw in 2015 with 27 sports, and the fifth will feature 23 sports at region and state level, six sports at ministries level and four para sports. A total of 6,500 athletes will compete in it.
