UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

On 18 November, combined teams impounded consumer goods worth K100.49 million without official documents from four containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint, consumer goods valued at K21.09 million without official documents from a passenger’s luggage at the Yangon International Airport, smuggled motorbike spare parts and consumer goods worth K23 million on the outskirts of Kengtung Township. The action was conducted following Customs procedures.

Similarly, combined teams conducted inspections and seized three unregistered vehicles worth K16.5 million in Myeik, Bokpyin and Dawei Districts, a Nissan Condor truck (worth approximately K30 million) carrying foodstuffs valued at K17 million without official documents at the entrance to Mandalay, and an unregistered vehicle and three unregistered motorbikes worth K14.65 million in Pathein and Labutta Districts. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law and Customs procedures.

Additionally, on 19 November, the joint on-duty teams nabbed teak weighing 4.506 tonnes worth K3.96 million in Phyu Township and two unregistered vehicles worth K5.5 million in Toungoo Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law and the Export-Import Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 16 arrests on 18 and 19 November, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K232 million.
