The delegation led by Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing visited the border town Ruili from Mangshi of Yunnan Province on 20 November and observed the work processes of the Kyalgaung immigration post.
During the visit, Yunnan Province immigration and Ruili immigration head Mr Jiang Bing explained the suspension of entry and exit at border posts in EAO-controlled border areas after armed conflicts occurred in the Kokang region and condition to reopen the closed border crossings after the negotiation of the two governments.
Deputy Director-General Mr Li Tao of the Immigration Inspection Division, Immigration and Border Protection of the Ministry of Public Security clarified the support of China towards Myanmar’s peace processes, closure of entry and exit of border crossings in EAO-controlled areas at border areas of the two countries and reopening of border posts for peoples of the two countries once stability prevails.
The Union minister also talked about the bilateral cooperation for Mekong-Lanchang cooperation, the Silk Road project and the Kyaukpyu deep seaport project and efforts to resume trading after reopening border camps.
Officials reported on the closure of the Myanmar-China border and arrangements for trading via the Nantaw checkpoint at the meeting hall of Muse (Nantaw border post).
After hearing the report, the Union minister stressed the need for strict security measures regarding illegal entry and exit through border crossings, illegal entry of restricted people and departure of restricted people abroad.
He also mentioned the closure of land borders by China to curb the arrival of unnecessary materials to insurgents and specific inspection at border checkpoints, which were opened for the peoples of the two countries. He added that Myanmar also focused on the stability of border areas, and makes efforts to continue the bilateral cooperation in a friendly manner. He then presented foodstuffs to relevant officials.
Afterwards, the Union minister inspected the immigration processes.
