In a series of successful operations, authorities have seized drugs valued at over K27.5 billion in Sagaing and Mandalay Regions. According to Myanmar Police Force reports the operations were conducted under the supervision of the Drug Enforcement Division.
At approximately 5 am on 5 November, the combined team, acting on a tip-off, searched a Fuso 12-wheel vehicle, travelling from Kalewa to Kalay, driven by Sein Lwin accompanied by Chit San Ko. Police captured heroin weighing 50.6 kilogrammes that were hidden by the goods in Kalay Township in Sagaing Region. The combined team also arrested Myint Naing Oo (aka) Maung Soe and Zaw Win Htun (aka) Naing Win Htun (aka) Nah Kah on the same day from a house in Chanmyathazi Township of Mandalay Region, Bayran Mon (aka) Zaw Tan and Yan Naing in Mahaaungmyay Township, who trafficked the psychotropic substances from Mandalay to Kalay.
Further investigations led to the seizure of Lah Thang Pwiya with smuggled prohibited chemical caffeine weighing three tonnes in Kalay Township. The individual, Thauk Ne Lwel (aka) Pu Thauk was arrested, and 5.51 million stimulant tablets, 412 kilogrammes of Ice and 0.43 kilogramme of heroin were found along with him at 10 am on 5 November. Another arrest was made in Pyigyidagun Township on 6 November. Win Htay Aung, a drug trafficker who transported the drugs from Mandalay to Kalay, was apprehended.
Afterwards, police arrested Hla Moe (aka) San Lwin with 13.2 kilogrammes of heroin at the delivery place in Hlaingthaya Ward of Kalay Township. Police arrested Yaw Kyein Yan (aka) Ah Hyate and his wife who were involved in the trafficking of drugs in Mandalay, Ye Zaw Aung (aka) Ah Pha with 89.8 kilogrammes of heroin from a house in Chanmyathazi Township.
Overall, the operations resulted in the seizure of psychotropic substances worth over K27.5 billion. The seized drugs were being transported from Shan State (South) to Mandalay. The seized drugs were stored in Kalay Township and were sold at the Myanmar-India border to drug traffickers from abroad. Legal action has been taken against the offenders, and investigations are ongoing to identify further accomplices involved in drug trafficking.
