AROUND two tonnes of illegal caffeine, which was intended to be transported to Shan State (North), were seized in Ywangan Township, according to reports from the Myanmar Police Force.

Following a tip-off, a combined team, including members of the Anti-Drug Police Force, stopped two 12-wheel vehicles driven by Than Hteik Aung and Kyaw Win near Myogyi village in Ywangan Township at 5 pm on 3 December. During the search, they discovered two tonnes of prohibited caffeine hidden beneath cow dung.

During questioning, the drivers revealed the involvement of Nay Aung in the drug transportation. Police then arrested Aike Soe Pauk (aka) Sai Htun Htun and Yin Aung Thu, who were travelling in a Ford Ranger near Myogyit village in Ywangan Township.

A Toyota Land Cruiser registered to Yin Aung Thu, was also confiscated at his house in Chanmyathazi Township. Additionally, on 6 December, further arrests were made in connection with the drug operation. Aung Soe Lin (aka) Aung Aung was detained in Amarapura Township, Sai Thiha Nge (aka) Thiha or Mauk Song in Patheingyi Township, Sai Nay Min Htun, together with a Parado used in carrying bags of caffeine, in Aungmyaythazan Township, and Chit Sein, owner of a godown used for storing caffeine in Mahaaungmyay Township.

Offenders admitted that the caffeine was to be transported from Mandalay Region to Shan State, under the supervision of Yon Kaw in Muse Township. Legal action has been initiated against offenders, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional individuals involved in the case.
