THE police arrested and investigated suspects who were involved in selling and allocating the jewellery received from excavating drains in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Heritage Zone, NyaungU of Mandalay Region, without reporting to the authorities on 20 September.
On that day, 13 workers led by U Nyo (aka) Ko Ko Nyo who got a permit for dredging water drains in Myinkaba village found one ancient clay pot containing 10 gold bracelets, two gold balls and some gold necklaces during their operation. However, they did not report to the authorities and Aung Phyo took 10 gold bracelets and two gold balls, and U Ko (aka) Ko Ko Nyo took gold necklaces and other jewellery.
According to the investigation, security force members detained Aung Phyo, Sein Tun and Aung Moe on 9 November, and Aung Phyo confessed that they sold about 13 ticals of gold at K54 million at the house of U Tin Maung Swe (still investigating) in Mandalay, and Ko Ko Nyo sold his gold items at K94million and shared with 12 workers including Sein Tun at K5,250,000 per person. The security forces seized five gold bracelets from Aung Moe, and three gold blocks and other gold pieces from Aung Phyo.
Files were cased against Aung Pyo, Sein Tun, Aung Moe and the remaining 11 offenders including U Nyo (aka) Ko Ko Nyo at Bagan Police Station under Section 17/19 of Protection and Preservation of Antique Objects Law.
