BEING a son of Buddha, I would like to say “Thebbay Thatta Kammatthaka” (all possess the consequences of their deeds) during the New Year occasion.

All the beings are running in a circle of lives depending on their deeds. One becomes a good person for their wholesome Kamma, and one becomes a bad person for their unwholesome Kamma.

Kamma is not the action created for one by others. Your actions, words and thoughts are your fate or predestination. As long as one has positive actions, words and thoughts, he or she might have a wholesome predestination. Otherwise, their Kamma might be unwholesome.

The results of good luck and bad luck are different.

During the New Year occasion, one should think to do better and try hard for themselves and also for others. All should try to do better things, say positive words, and think the positive thoughts for themselves and others.

All especially say or think depending on their thoughts. If all usually say and do good things, it becomes their habits as their actions and thoughts will significantly change into good ones. If not, they are on the runway of negative consequences.

Therefore, during this New Year occasion, I extend by Metta (loving-kindness) to all living things, the whole nation, country, world and unaversive.

That Metta comes from Karuna, and the mindset of Metta is from Mudita. The mindset of Metta is to do your duty and share Metta with all living things despite the living things have their predestination. It is based on Upekkha (equanimity). If one has Metta, Karuna, Mudita and Upekkha, and does good things, says positive words, and thinks constructively, such doings can be supportive causes for his or her surroundings to do, say and think optimistic things. If one extends Metta, another can receive it if he or she accepts it.

If one extends Karuna, another can receive it if he or she accepts it. If one extends Mudita, another can receive it if he or she accepts it.

Therefore, Metta, Karuna, Mudita and Upekkha are the things that the noble person upholds, and they protect the world and make the world peaceful. Therefore, “Thebbay Thatta Kammatthaka”, all should do, say and think wholesomely, cultivating Metta, Karuna, Mudita and Upekkha in mind. May all people do, say and think positive things for the whole nation and world. May all be in good health and build a peaceful world.
