STATE Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo in his capacity of Central Committee on Ensuring Smooth Flow of Trade and Goods Chairman attended the signing event of Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs) on the establishment of new jetties for loading and unloading processes of crops and oil products at Wharf Nos 27, 28 and 29 of the Thilawa Port Terminal, and installation of sheltered conveying systems at Sule Jetty and Warehouses 1, 2 and 3, held at Novotel Yangon Max Hotel in Yangon yesterday.
In his speech, the Union minister said the rice export volume in the 2023- 2024 financial year (FY) was only 1.7 million tonnes at Yangon Port, the volume reached 2.1 million tonnes between April and December in the 2024-2025 FY. The maize export was only 1.3 milliontonnes in previous FY, and it increased to 1.6 million during nine months of this financial year. Therefore, the need of jetties become high and modern equipment should be installed to promote the productivity.
In order to implement the guidance to double the export volume given by the Head of the State, the expansion of jetties and modern port machinery can ensure the readiness to manage the increasing trade volume. Therefore, it should work hard to conduct four projects successfully and enhance the government-to-business (G2B) and business-to-business (B2B) cooperation.
At the event, MoAs were inked for the construction of an edible oil jetty at Thilawa Wharf 27 between Myanmar Edible Oil Industrial Public Company Limited (MEICO) and Myanmar China Harbour Engineering (MCHEC), whereas the Myanmar Agribusiness Public Company Limited (MAPCO) and MCHEC for the construction of a crop jetty at Wharf 28, a crop jetty at Wharf 29 by Myanma Agricultural and General Development Public Limited (MAGDPL) and MCHEC, and the installation of sheltered conveying systems at Sule Warehouses 1, 2, 3, 4 and jetties by Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) and MCHEC. The projects’ initial investment totals US$61 million.
