Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General said that the duty of safeguarding independence and sovereignty of a country is an inborn duty for all citizens. In fulfilling their historical duties, good citizens sacrifice life and limb for the sake of the State and nationality, guided by the belief that ‘if a person is brave, they never go to hell.’ Thus, these good citizens are rightfully honoured on Independence Day each year.

Myanmar Tatmadaw which emerged along with the independence struggle history has fought various battles against colonialists for independence. After regaining independence, Tatmadaw defended against various challenges in consequence of the colonialism. Amid internal and external various dangers triggered by political and military measures, Tatmadaw members served assigned duties without any complaints for the sake of the State and the people with sacrifices. Tatmadaw focuses on the genuine national duty amid various attacks based on internal insurgencies and dogmatism and sectarianism along with independence and has been serving the interests of the State and the people for many years.

While Tatmadaw members are fighting on the frontline for defending the country, their wives and family members are important reserve forces for the defending the State. As better halves, it can be seen proudly that they are fought against the enemies with sacrifice of life for the State and the nationality applying military techniques.

Peace and stability with free from armed conflicts are basic for development of a country. Hence, infrastructures can be built and trading will boom. Likewise, fulfilment can be given to education, health, social and other sectors of the residents.

Whenever the individual selfishness of a few is put forth under the guise of state or ethnic causes, residents suffer losses. To prevent such measures, Tatmadaw must prioritize its duty to defend the people. Since no human society accepts armed terrorism, Myanmar must completely prevent terrorism.

This ceremony, 34 persons will be awarded the gallantry medals.
