MANDALAY Central Prison, located in Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay, released 695 prisoners, including 541 males and 154 females, as part of an amnesty granted yesterday.
“The release aims to bring peace and harmony to the people. Those who have been released received daily allowances and wages for their work. Arrangements were made to transport them to bus terminals or railway stations by departmental vehicles on their way to their respective regions. We are pleased to see them reunited with their families,” said U Thein Zaw Maung, Deputy Director of the Mandalay Central Prison. The amnesty recipients were addressed by Colonel Nay Lin Soe, Mandalay Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs, and Police BrigGen Win Bo, Chief of the Mandalay Region Police Force, who offered guidance and advice. Prison officials also conducted health checks and provided allowances and travel expenses to those released. “I’m deeply happy to be reunited with my family. Moving forward, I plan to contribute to both my family and the country by following the law. I’m grateful to the officials for their kindness in granting this amnesty,” shared one of the released prisoners.
Yesterday’s release included a total of 1,141 prisoners across five prisons and seven labour camps within the Mandalay Region, comprising 877 males and 264 females.
