MYANMAR brought in over 1.4 million tonnes of fertilizers in the past nine months of the current financial year 2024-2025 beginning 1 April, according to the Urea Fertilizer Purchasing and Distribution Steering Committee.

Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe who chaired the committee stated that the committee will continue evaluating and recommending import of the remaining fertilizers and pesticides.

Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association (MFSPEA) must monitor each company whether they can import as per the set import volume or not. The permit should be granted to only those companies that can actually and completely import them, he added.

The steering committee is asked to govern shops in each region and state if they follow the set reference prices of fertilizers after adding transport cost and set profit margin, to report overcharging, to monitor market manipulation with stocks piled up and to cooperate with the officials concerned and the relevant departments. The Union minister also addressed the departments concerned to ensure no delay in import of agricultural inputs, quality assurance and price fairness.

At present, the Fertilizer Committee holds a quarterly meeting to ensure quality fertilizers for growers without facing shortages. Under the approval of Fertilizer Technology Group, 11,573 fertilizer registrations Bags of imported fertilizers in the domestic market. have been granted after the 41st meeting of the Fertilizer Committee. With individuals’ consent, 1,957 registrations were voluntarily cancelled. The department revoked 2,793 registrations for expiration of validity and 6,823 registrations are still under processing for now.
