Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe met diplomatic staff assigned to Myanmar embassies, permanent missions, and consulate-general abroad yesterday.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Lwin Oo and U Ko Ko Kyaw, the permanent secretary, directors-general, deputy directors-general, and officials designated for overseas postings.

During the session, officials introduced the countries where they had previously served and their upcoming duty locations.

In his guidance, the Union minister underscored the importance of loyalty to the nation and people, urging diplomats to possess the qualification and reasoning skills to empower themselves. He also called for efforts to be good diplomats in serving duties, and to study the history of the countries where they are going to assigned in advance in order that they can perform duty perfectly.

He continued that the diplomats should have continuous insights into the changing world, perform duty for the country’s interests and strengthen bilateral ties. They should also learn the good points of other countries and take lessons from their weaknesses. Being diplomats, they should have perfect negotiation skills and awareness of rules, and should not misuse their authority. He then mentioned the honorary titles and medals conferred by the government to those who work hard in serving duties.

He highlighted the vital skills of diplomats, including language proficiency, and urged them to strive for unity.
