THE Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has been implementing a Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to combat the illegal trade of timber and forest products.
According to data provided by the Nay Pyi Taw, state, and regional forest departments, a total of 38.5676 tonnes of illegal timber were seized between 30 December and 5 January. This included 14.7564 tonnes of teak, 3.0676 tonnes of hardwood, and 20.7436 tonnes of other types of wood. Additionally, 20 individuals were arrested, and eight vehicles and machines used in the illegal activities were confiscated, according to the Forest Department.
