Young students participated in the domestic-level basic innovation competition yesterday morning at Naypyitaw State Polytechnic University in Pobbathiri Township. The event aimed to select participants for the Fifth ASEAN-India Grassroots Innovation Forum’s Innovation Project Competition.

The event commenced with opening remarks from the director-general of the Department of Advanced Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Following this, the pro-rector of Naypyitaw State Polytechnic University provided an overview of the competition.

Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and officials observed the innovative projects presented by students from universities, government technological institutes and government technical high schools.

Students submitted 54 projects for the competition: 48 from nine universities, four from three government industrial science schools and two other projects from two government technical high schools. After preliminary screening, 21 projects were selected for the competition – 16 from eight universities, four from three GTI and one from a government technical high school.

From these 21 projects, five teams were selected to represent Myanmar in the Fifth ASEAN-India Grassroots Innovation Forum. The event concluded with closing remarks from the director-general of the Department of Technical, Vocational Education and Training.
