UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade continued effectively by the law.
On 9 January, the Customs on-duty teams confiscated 10 kinds of industrial materials worth K192.245 million without official documents from three containers at the Thilawa Port, 73 kinds of industrial materials worth K1.226 billion without official documents from 16 containers at the Asia World Port Terminal container checkpoint, industrial materials worth K24.215 million without official documents from two containers at the Myanmar Industrial Port, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck, a Chenglong tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K123 million), heading to Yangon from Mawlamyine, carrying two kinds of industrial materials worth K53.708 million without official documents at the Ywathagyi Dry Port. The action was conducted following Customs procedures.
Similarly, on 10 January, the on-duty teams seized a Nissan Diesel tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K71 million), travelling from Yangon to Mandalay, carrying industrial materials valued at K9.126 million without official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint, a Hino truck (estimated value of K25 million) carrying consumer goods, industrial materials and foodstuffs valued at K25.790 million without official documents on the outskirts of Kyaukse Township and a Nissan Condor truck (estimated value of K33 million), carrying consumer goods valued at K7.106 million without official documents on the Yangon-Mandalay expressway. The action was carried out per Customs procedures.
The on-duty teams seized six vehicles (estimated value of K180 million), travelling from Thaton to Bago, carrying foodstuffs and consumer goods valued at K32.369 million without official documents near Shwe Thanlwin tollgate in Phayagyi and illegal charcoal weighing 42.020 tonnes and illegal teak weighing 7.913 tonnes worth K7.039 million in Bago district. The action was taken under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
Illegal teak weighing 2.806 tonnes and 0.526 tonne of other timbers worth K5.1 million were confiscated from a Hina rainbow bus (estimated value of K15 million) that was parked by the side of the Tahlay-Tachilek Road in Tachilek Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 37 arrests on 9 and 10 January, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K2.030 billion.
