Union Election Commission Members U Aung Saw Win and U Myint Thein visited the presidential election in the Republic of Belarus on 26 January as international observers.

They observed the advance voting process from 21 to 25 January and met with Mr Igor Karpenko, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, on 24 January.

Additionally, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Central Information and Observation Centre of Belarus and participated in press conferences held by the Central Election Commission. On election day, they visited polling stations to observe the voting process.

A total of 486 international election observers from 52 countries monitored the election.

Reports indicate that the current president, Aleksandr Lukashenko, won with 86.82 per cent of the votes. The Myanmar delegation returned to Yangon via Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday evening.
