A delegation led by Indian Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the humanitarian leader and peace envoy, who is currently in Yangon travelled to Nay Pyi Taw by air yesterday morning. Upon their arrival, they were welcomed at Nay Pyi Taw International Airport by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Aye Tun, members of the Nay Pyi Taw Council and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the afternoon, the Indian Gurudev visited the Myanmar Gems Museum in Nay Pyi Taw, where museum officials showcased various exhibits, including a jade replica of Uppatasanti Pagoda, the Myanmar’s largest pearl, high-quality raw jade stones and rare gemstones such as rubies and sapphires. During the visit, the Indian Gurudev signed the guestbook.

He also visited the Maravijaya Buddha Image located in the Buddha Park in Dekkhinathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. At the site, officials explained the purpose of the sacred statue’s construction, and the various stages in successful carving of the Buddha image. A documentary video clip about the construction process was also shown. The delegation then paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha Image, offering flowers, sacred water and oil lamps. They also explored the Agga Dhipati Sasana Beikman, as well as stone plaque chamber pagodas which keep the stone-inscribed Buddhist scriptures that feature Pali script and Romanized text on marble slabs.

They visited the Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw, where they paid homage to the Buddha image inside the pagoda’s chamber, made floral and water offerings and donated funds. They also toured the White Elephant shed in the precinct of the pagoda, where they fed the white elephants.

In the evening, Union Minister U Tin Oo Lwin hosted a dinner in honour of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and his delegation at the M Gallery Hotel. Also present at the dinner were Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo, deputy ministers, Nay Pyi Taw Council members and other officials.
