THE number of Myanmar tourists visiting Bodh Gaya may increase during Thingyan, according to some travellers and travel companies.

Since the opening season, domestic tourists have been visiting local and international pilgrimages, sightseeing tours, and beach trips. Outbound destinations of Myanmar people include Thailand and Bodh Gaya.

Pilgrimage operators said that families and friends are planning to visit Bodh Gaya during the upcoming summer holidays and Thingyan.

“We are planning a family pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya in March, as it is the summer school holiday. Some of my friends have a plan to go there during Thingyan. I have seen many potential travellers to Bodh Gaya,” said an intended traveller.

In the pilgrimage tour, trips to Bodh Gaya, Varanasi (aka) Sarnath, Ganges river, Kaushambi, Sankissa, Agra (Taj Maha and Red Fort), New Delhi, vault of sacred relics, Akshardham Temple, Shravasti, Kapilavastu, Lumbini, Kushinagar, Vaishali, Patna, Rajghur and Nalanda are included.

Thailand may be one of Myanmar’s most visited outbound destinations in Thingyan, said U Naung Naung Han, vice president of the Myanmar Tourism Federation.
