The campaign for Myanma Thanaka to be listed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and marking “Myanma Thanaka Day”, which will fall on 12 February, was held in the National Library (Nay Pyi Taw) yesterday.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Daw Nu Mra Zan, departmental officials, teachers and students from the post-primary school (Nyaungpingyisu) and the Honey Tree private school.

During the event, the librarian briefed the history, traditions and culture of Myanma Thanaka, the benefits of Thanaka via video clips, displayed the books related to Thanaka, and also arranged the website link to explore the Thanaka-related data. Students also recited poems depicting Myanma Thanaka and also wore Thanaka.

Similarly, the national museums, cultural museums and libraries in regions and states under the ministry are also urged to participate in Thanaka Week or Thanaka Month during the whole of February.
