State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Defence General Maung Maung Aye, who is also Chairman of the National Land Utilization Council, addressed the seventh meeting of the council yesterday.
At the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw, the General said that land resources are considered fundamental for a country’s economic growth, providing the basis for food, clothing and shelter. They are also related to the traditions, customs and cultural heritages of the ethnic people. The political, economic, environmental and social conflicts are connected with the land resource utilization, and so there should be a perfect land utilization system. Moreover, the National Land Utilization Policy was drafted with public participation and released in January 2016 to manage the country’s land resources.
He continued that the country has 53 laws related to land management, and the Work Committee on Drafting the National Land Law and harmonization of related laws was organized to harmonize the existing land laws and draft a national land law. The work committee estimated 15 months from August 2023 to October 2024 to draft the national land law (draft), and the operation reached the draft version.
Secretary of the council Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi explained the undertaking of the sixth meeting, while Union Minister U Min Naung reported on drafting national land law and management measures.
Union ministers, the chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council and officials reported on the progress of tasks undertaken by relevant work committees, drawing national roadmap and land utilization pilot projects.
