THE government continues efforts to identify and repatriate foreign nationals who have entered Myanmar illegally, particularly those involved in online gambling, telecom fraud and other criminal activities in border regions. Authorities are working systematically to investigate and deport these individuals to their respective countries as per legal procedures.
As part of ongoing operations, 250 more illegal foreign nationals were detained yesterday in Myawady, specifically in the Shwe Kokko and Myawaddy-Maehtawthalay areas of Kayin State. These individuals had entered Myanmar through border routes from neighbouring countries and were engaged in online gambling and telecom fraud activities.
Relevant departments are now compiling personal information and records to facilitate their repatriation as soon as possible. Kayin State Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Thu Kyaw and officials inspected the detention conditions and supervised the registration process for the detainees.
A total of 4,242 illegal foreign nationals have been identified and detained in Myanmar between 30 January and 5 March 2025. Of these, 757 have already been deported to their respective countries via Thailand following proper legal procedures, while the remaining 3,485 are being held in preparation for their repatriation. Authorities have confirmed that they are being securely detained and provided with necessary care until their transfer is completed.
