The Walking Thingyan festivals will be prioritized across the country in the 2026 Thingyan Festival (1387 ME). Arrangements are being made not to allow decorative vehicles and open trucks, but the festival will feature traditional activities such as group dances, food donation events, washing elders’ hair, trimming their nails, donating medicines, and releasing fish to preserve the essence of Myanmar culture.

The Walking Thingyan festivals will be at Nay Pyi Taw Square, Shankan of Pyinmana, Tatkon and Lewe in Nay Pyi Taw, whereas at People’s Square, from U Wizara roundabout to Ahlon Street, in front of City Hall, districts and townships in Yangon, and around the moat of Mandalay, Meiktila Lake, in districts and townships of Mandalay.

In Kayin State, Walking Thingyan and beach-style Thingyan festivals will be held in Hpa-an along the Strand Road, near Kanthaya Lake at Lover’s Lane, and in front of Zwekabin Park. In Sagaing Region, events will take place along the Bogyoke Road in Monywa, in Magway Region, along the riverbank, in Mon State, along the Strand Road in Mawlamyine, and in Ayeyawady Region, along the riverside in Pathein. The Walking Thingyan pavilions will also be set up in different districts and townships nationwide.

There will be Walking Thingyan festivals in Myitkyina in Kachin State, Loikaw in Kayan State, Haka in Chin State, Myeik in Taninthayi Region, Bago in Bago Region, Sittway in Rakhine State, Taunggyi in Shan State, and in different districts and townships.

This year’s festival is not only a joyful celebration but also a meaningful event where the government, Hluttaw representatives, civil servants, and the public will come together to participate with a new spirit, unity, and a new political landscape.

The Walking Thingyan pandals will be set up in different districts, townships, wards and villages in addition to big cities for all the people to be able to participate in, and the festival will also include entertainment programmes of famous artistes, vocalists and local singers.
