THE Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation designated the area of 3,817 acres in Pauk Township, Pakokku District in Magway Region, as “North Pauk 1 protected public forest” as of 26 August 2022, under notification No 130/2022 by exercising the authority conferred under Sub-section (e) of Section (6) of the Forest Law promulgated in 2018.

The North Pauk 1 protected forest is intended to increase the area of forest coverage by carrying out forest conservation activities, for the local people to systematically extract more wood and forest products and this protected forest is intended to be established as a buffer forest area for the climate balance and the forest belts in the west and northwest Pontaung Ponnya Region.

In the North Pauk 1 protected public forest, valuable trees such as iron tree, sal trees, Shorea oblongifolia, Chukrasia tabularise, palm trees, white plum, and myrobalan are mixed growth. In the protected forest area is a grazing area of animals such as muntjac, dhole, jungle cat, and deer and birds such as woodpecker, quail, Burmese francolin, and Columbidae. As it is necessary to properly maintain and administer the forest under the laws, this area was designated as a protected public forest area.
