SUPERVISED by the Anti-Ille­gal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken against offenders to prevent illicit trade under the law.

An on-duty team under the supervision of the Cus­toms Department made in­spections at the Asia World container checkpoint on 21 September. Officials found 13,600 kilogrammes of velvet elastic band that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) and were worth K48,552,000. The team also seized electronic de­vices at an estimated value of K61,302,000, which were not de­clared in the ID in a container at the airport cargo warehouse at the Yangon International Airport on 22 September. The total worth of seizures amount­ed to K61,302,000 and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Similarly, a combined in­spection team under the su­pervision of the Customs De­partment made inspections at the Mayanchaung checkpoint on 21 and 23 September. They found 1,116 litres of vegetable oil worth K3,085,000, which were not declared in the ID and the two vehicles (estimat­ed at K25 million) carrying the goods. The total worth of sei­zures amounted to K28,085,000 and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Furthermore, a coast guard gunboat patrolled the territory under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of Thaninthayi Region on 23 September. They found two trawlers estimated at K7 mil­lion from 2.4 miles northeast and 1.8 miles north of Pigeon Island using restricted fish­ing nets that can damage the floor of the ocean. The action was taken under the Myanmar Fisheries Law.

Then, the inspection team under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of Sagaing Region made in­spections at the Kyweye com­bination checkpoint of Monywa township on 24 September. Of­ficials found four vehicles with­out licences at the estimated value of K15,900,000. They also seized a motorcycle without a licence estimated at K9 mil­lion. The total worth of seizures amounted to K24,900,000 and the actions were taken under the Export and Import Law.

Next, a combined inspec­tion team, under the supervi­sion of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of the Bago region, led by the Region Forest De­partment in Pyu township in the Toungoo district. They found 0.187 tonnes of illegal teak estimated at K28,050 and the action was taken under the Forest Law.

Therefore, 14 cases at an estimated value of K121,315,050 were taken action from 21 to 24 September, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
