DEPUTY Minister for Foreign Af­fairs U Kyaw Myo Htut attended the first Mekong-Lancang Coop­eration Eminent Persons Forum organized by the Chinese Peo­ple’s Institute of Foreign Affairs via videoconferencing yesterday.

It was held under the topic of “Emphasis on the development and promotion of idea exchang­es for a new era of peace and prosperity.”

The deputy minister deliv­ered an opening speech together with Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Mr Wu Jianghao and former Foreign Minister Mr Li Zhaoxing.

During the meeting, the deputy minister pointed out the achievements of the Me­kong-Lancang Cooperation, cur­rent challenges and cooperation to face the regional and interna­tional challenges.

Then, he discussed the outcomes of the seventh Me­kong-Lancang Cooperation For­eign Ministers’ Meeting hosted by Myanmar in Bagan on 4 July and expressed thanks to China for providing other funds includ­ing LMC Special Fund.

He also highlighted the sup­portive opinions and discussions for ensuring peace, prosperity and sustainable development of the Mekong-Lancang regions stated in LMC procedures. The leaders set the priority sectors for assistance in the recovery of the regional economy, regional transport to streamline the flows of goods and services, promo­tion of cooperation in customs authorities to reduce delays in the trading sector, regional energy procurement and improvement of the agriculture sector.
