Myanmar National Human
Rights Commission
Statement 4/2022
1. The Chairman of the State Administration Council issued Order No 70/ 2022, 71/ 2022, 72/ 2022, 73/ 2022, and 74/ 2022 on 17 November 2022, under which a total of 5,774 prisoners serving sentences in respective prisons, jails and camps, and other five prisoners have been pardoned. Furthermore, the cases opened against 11 artistes have been allowed to be withdrawn, and the prison sentences of four foreign prisoners have been remitted and they have been deported. These humanitarian actions of the Chairman are steps in the right direction. Despite the expressions of different motives underlying these actions, the stark facts remain that the relevant families are certainly pleased to be reunited with their family members.
2. The Commission hopes that similar positive steps will be taken in the future as well in the interests of peace, development, and stability of the nation.
