THE opening ceremony of the seventh China-ASEAN Forum on Traditional Medicine was held in China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region via a hybrid method yesterday.

During the event, Chinese Mayor Haung Jiang delivered the opening speech.

In the video message of Deputy Minister for Health Dr Aye Tun, he said that traditional medicine practitioners play a key role in healthcare services in addition to herbal plants and traditional methods of treatment in rural areas of developing countries. Today, the use of traditional medicines is increasing and governments support the development of traditional medicine.

It is also necessary to conserve the endangered biodiversity and grow medicinal plants, which are facing extinction risk, systematically. The countries should cooperate to ensure the sustainability of medicinal plants, and traditional medicine research and development and to use them in controlling the pandemic. The exchange of views on traditional medicines, research, common framework, national policies and future work plans between ASEAN member countries and Chinese representatives will promote cooperation.

The forum was attended by traditional medicine practitioners from China and ASEAN and the Consul-General of Nanning-based Myanmar Consulate-General in person, and the traditional medicine practitioners of the Ministry of Health joined it online.
