A GIANT whale was discovered on Chaungtha Beach, Chaungtha, Pathein District in Ayeyawady Region at 5 pm on 20 August.
Officials of the Department of Fisheries found an enormous whale with a length of 10.7 feet, a girth of five feet, and a fin of about three feet, on the beach in front of the Thiri Hotel in Chaungtha while conducting a field survey for fisheries along the beach.
The Department of Fisheries has issued a prohibition on the capture, purchase, collection, and trade of aquatic animals, including rare and endangered species of whales.
However, these fish species are still being caught in the sea and sold and purchased in some areas.
