THE Kayin traditional wrist-tying ceremony was held in Myaungmya of Ayeyawady region yesterday morning.

The ceremony was opened by Mahn Nyein Maung, a member of the State Administration Council, by beating the frog drum nine times and delivering a greeting speech.

The regional chief minister, the leader of the advisory group of the SAC and the commander of the South-West Command gave greeting speeches.

Regional Ethnic Affairs Minister U Saw Lin Khel explained the purpose of the ceremony. Mahn Thein Kyaw, Chairman of the Kayin Ethnic Literature and Culture Association of Ayeyawady Region, gave a word of thanks.

Then, young Kayin youths carried white cotton items and placed them in front of Mahn Nyein Maung and other officials. They offered the white cotton items to them.

During the wrist-tying ceremony, they performed traditional Kayin ethnic dances, and they sang the Kayin national song and the ceremony came to a close.
