UNION Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn visited the Sarpay Beikman, Myanmar Media Development Department and The Global New Light of Myanmar Daily in Yangon and met officials of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization at the Film Promotion Branch yesterday.
On arrival at the Sarpay Beikman, the Union minister said the role of the Sarpay Beikman is important for its significant endeavours in literature. The staff should know international affairs and local affairs. Only true information brings benefits while misinformation causes negative impacts. Every country including Myanmar faces challenges due to disinformation and false news. Therefore, it should use social networks effectively and all should consider using them effectively.
Then, he proceeded to the Myanmar Media Development Department in Bo Aung Kyaw Street and inspected the office compound, Media N Co Ltd office, newsroom and recording sessions of M Entertainment Channel.
At noon, he met the staff of The Global New Light of Myanmar.
During the meeting, the Union minister expressed appreciation to the editorial department and relevant staff for changing the Logo, features and new coverage styles of the newspaper starting 1 August 2023.
He then highlighted the need to select news items that can lure the interests of readers, to have a political outlook in selecting the news, and not to present news that can affect the bilateral relations and insult the partner countries’ sovereignty even though it can express independently as per the policies of the house and to select the news and articles systematically and edit not to contain any errors.
During the meeting with officials of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization, he talked about the intention of meeting and called on all to participate in making preparations for the 2023 Film Academy Award presentation ceremony, saying the cooperation between the ministry and film industry achieved certain success previously and it should prepare to show the films not only in the country but also at the international film festival and ceremonial occasions and consider how to promote the role of Myanmar films.
