THE opening ceremony of Mekong-Lancang Project’s Crop Yield Assessment Centre in Pobbathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, built with the fund for 2022 provided by the Mekong-Lancang cooperation project, was held yesterday with the attendance of Union ministers and senior officials including U Min Naung, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
In his opening remark at the ceremony, Union Minister U Min Naung said the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund has implemented a total of 106 small and medium-sized projects from 2017 to 2023 in Myanmar, of which 35 projects were implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation. The Crop Yield Assessment Centre is also one of the projects implemented with the special fund provided in 2022.
The project to build the Crop Yield Assessment Centre was implemented by the Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics under the ministry. Currently, arrangements are being made to collect crop cultivation data using drones to be able to replace manpower. The collected data will be employed in assessing crop yield using Remote Sensing and GIS technologies, the Union minister said.
Next, the first secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar, Mr Wang Xianzhong, gave a congratulatory speech about the implementation of the projects, and the Deputy Chairman of the Coordinating and Supervisory Committee of the Mekong-Lanchang Cooperation, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Director-General of the Department of Land Management and Statistics explained the project’s activities.
After the ceremony, Union ministers and guests took documentary photos and looked round the galleries in the facility.
