THE Taunggyi Tazaungdine traditional hot-air balloon festival will take place at the Ahweiya hot-air balloon ground in Taunggyi in Shan State (South) on 21-27 November, according to Director U Htin Aung Naing from the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.

The festival will be held in the same way as before the COVID-19 pandemic with day balloons and night balloons. Currently, the hotels, motels and guest houses in Taunggyi and the surrounding areas are already full with bookings of visitors from across the country.

“The Taunggyi Tazaungdine Hot-air Balloon Festival is a famous festival of Taunggyi that people from all over the country come and enjoy. It could not be held in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was briefly held in 2022. This year, it will be held for seven days crowded like before the COVID-19 period and plans are underway to release eight or nine hot-air balloons per day. During the day, the festival comprises releasing of two-legged and four-legged balloons and at night, Seinnapan and Nyameegyi will be launched,” said U Htin Aung Naing.

The festival is celebrated around the Tazaungmone Full Moon Day in Taunggyi and there are two kinds of hot-air balloon competitions namely the Day hot-air balloon and the Night hot-air balloon.
