UNION Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win attended the 2023 Belt and Road Ministerial Forum for International Cooperation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management (BRIDRREM) online hosted by China on 16 November.
Chinese Vice-Premier Mr Liu Guozhong addressed the forum held with the theme “Emergency Management: Safety and Prevention First”.
At the forum, the officials from 24 countries reported on their respective disaster management activities, and the Union minister said that Myanmar enacted Natural Disaster Management Law in 2013 and Bylaw in 2015 to carry out effective disaster management activities as the country is in disaster-prone areas. The National Disaster Management Committee was also organized under the supervision of the SAC Vice-Chairman and it has already drafted the Standing Order.
Moreover, the government constructs cyclone shelters, establishes disaster management training schools, promotes the EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) and conducts awareness programmes of alert systems.
He also expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for their support in disaster management measures and pledged that Myanmar will adopt modern technologies in disaster risk reduction.
Then, the attendees to the forum approved the Joint Statement of 2023 BRIDRREM.
