MYANMAR Anti-Corruption Commission Member U Kyaw Win Thein participated as a panellist in the World Anti-Corruption Conference (WACC), which is organized by the International Strategy Institute (ISI) based in Malaysia, with the theme “Towards a Corrupt-Free Future: Strengthening Global Governance Together” on 16 November in Jakarta, Indonesia. Four sectors: “Law Enforcement on Prevention and Persecution”, “Strengthening Global Governance Mechanisms”, “Preventing the Misuse of Laws to Evade Accountability” and “Combatting Government Corruption: Ensuring Accountability for Clean Governance” were discussed during the conference.
In the Law Enforcement on Prevention and Persecution” section, commission member U Kyaw Win Thein, Mohammad Sukri HJ Ariffin from Brunei’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Ms Huiri Kim from Korea’s Anti-corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) participated as panellists.
For effective anti-corruption activities, discussions focused on ethical behaviour and issues that could be broadly coordinated in the fight against corruption, including the strengthening of law enforcement agencies. Myanmar discussed issues as the Myanmar Anti-Corruption Commission has established strategies for anti-corruption and prevention activities.
Establishing and implementing the annual operation plan, preparing annual reports and reports to the public transparently, and cooperating with regional anti-corruption organizations, including the ASEAN Anti-Corruption Organization ASEAN-PAC were also discussed. The signing of a memorandum of understanding with some member countries, the activities to be carried out and the confiscation of money and materials obtained from corruption were also included in the discussion.
