THE Republic of India donated telecobalt therapy machines (Bhabhatron II and Digital Radiotherapy Simulator) to Yangon General Hospital (YGH) on 18 July for vulnerable cancer patients in Myanmar who need radiotherapy treatment.

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win received telecobalt therapy machines from India’s Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur at the handover ceremony of Bhabhatron-II and digital radio simulator held at YGH on 18 July 2024.

India designed and developed a telecobalt unit, Bhabhatron II, which is an advanced radiation therapy for cancer patients, which is accepted as an effective treatment modality among various cancer centres in India and abroad.

“Under India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, India is committed to developing friendly relations with Myanmar. India will contribute to effectuating people-centred socioeconomic development to ensure health care, education and livelihood for Myanmar people,” said the India’s Ambassador to Myanmar.

India prioritizes strengthening relations with its neighbours. It has been accelerating humanitarian assistance and cooperation in developing projects for neighbouring countries.

India has been supporting medical devices and equipment to hospitals in Mandalay, Monywa, Sittway and Nay Pyi Taw areas in addition to Yangon City. It also helps enhance the efficiency and efficacy of health professionals.
