UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illegal trade are being conducted effectively in accordance with the law.

On 22 July, a team from the Customs Department carried out inspections at Yangon International Airport and seized three types of illegal goods valued at K15.2 million. This included seven JBL portable speakers made in China. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.

On the same day, the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force inspected goods at the Yadanabon Bridge Checkpoint, seizing 200 gallons of illegally imported premium diesel worth approximately K2.65 million and a Sojen light truck valued at K20 million. The action was taken under the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law.

Also, on 22 July, the Magway Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force inspected Sedoktara Township in Minbu District and seized 0.75 tonne of illegal timbers worth K287,540. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

On 23 July, the Taninthayi Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force conducted inspections and seized unregistered vehicles, including four Hijets, one Honda Fit, one Isuzu, one Toyota BB, and one Nissan Liberty, valued at approximately K44.5 million. The action was taken under the Import-Export Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that 12 arrests were made on 22 and 23 July, leading to the seizure of illegal goods worth approximately K82.638 million.
