UNDER the supervision and control of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, illegal trade is being effectively prevented and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

On July 24 and 25, the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force, under the management of the Customs Department, inspected 19 containers and discovered items that did not match the goods declared in the import declaration forms. These items included 880 Chinese-made Mascot brand high heels, 50 platform scales, and 856.8 square metres of ceramic wall and floor tiles, as well as three types of 23,200 kilogrammes FRP (fibreglass reinforced plastic) gratings, with an estimated value of K100,917,480.

A total of 9,792 Knight Horse bathing slippers made in Thailand (estimated value of K14,688,000) were found on a Hino truck (estimated value of K30,000,000) travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. The quantity of these slippers exceeded the amount declared in the import declaration form. Additionally, 320 kilogrammes of fertilizer bags, believed to be ammonium nitrate, 100 cartons of dried noodles under the Nay Myo Win brand, 24 wooden doors, three wooden chairs, and one wooden altar (with an estimated value of K268,500,000), carried by a Nissan Diesel box truck (estimated value K40 million), were seized.
