Led by Union Minister for Education Dr Nyunt Pe, the Myanmar delegation attended the 13th ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting in Thailand. On 24 August, the delegation, along with other ASEAN education ministers, visited the ancient sites of Khao Phnom Rung and Prasat Meaung Tam in Buriram City.
At the meeting on 24 August at Buriram United Stadium, the Governor of Buriram Province and Thailand’s Education Minister, Police General Prempoon Chidchob, delivered the opening remarks.
Chaired by Thailand’s Education Minister Police General Prempoon Chidchob, the meeting included representatives from ASEAN and partner countries. The representative from Vietnam discussed the report of the 18th meeting of high-level officials, while Thailand presented the report of the 19th meeting.
During the discussions on educational transformation in the digital era, the Myanmar delegation highlighted the future of education and the role of digital technology and innovations in developing job opportunities. The Myanmar delegation emphasized the need for a supportive educational environment with active and inclusive learning systems to ensure individual success in a rapidly changing world.
The Union minister stressed that teachers, policymakers, industries, and students must collaborate to develop a national digital education strategy. He also suggested equipping universities, colleges, and schools with high-speed internet and digital tools, developing online platforms, familiarizing students with digital technology, building teachers’ capacity in digital transformation, and adopting advanced academic systems.
The respective delegations and the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General then exchanged views, leading to the approval of a joint communiqué on educational transformation in the digital era. The 14th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting will be hosted by Singapore in 2026.
