THE Myanmar delegation led by Director-General U Ye Naing of MRTV under the Ministry of Information attended the 19th Asia Media Summit and Associated Meetings organized by AIBD in Malaysia on 1 and 2 September.

The summit was held under the theme of “Media: The New Odyssey,” with ten different workshops attended by Communication and Information Ministers of the Asia-Pacific region, governmental representatives, media decision-makers, academic personnel, and media experts.

Director-General U Ye Naing attended the workshop on combating fake news and disinformation and promoting media awareness at IPPTAR, Angkasapuri, on 1 September and the 22nd AIBD General Conference at the Sheraton Hotel.

On 2 September, he attended the Pre-Summit Workshop on Promoting Media Accessibility for Vulnerable Groups at the IPPTAR Training Room. He participated in a discussion regarding the importance of accessibility in media, the creation of inclusive and accessible media content, and broadcasting and support for the production of media content that highlights the experiences and needs of vulnerable groups.

Officials from India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea participated in that event and Myanmar to “raise awareness about the importance of media accessibility for vulnerable groups.”

Moreover, staff officer U Myint Hlaing and assistant engineer U Htet Aung of MRTV also attended the workshops on leveraging AI in newsrooms and exploring 5G trends for 4K broadcasting on 1 and 2 September.

Established under the auspices of UNESCO in 1977, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is a regional inter-governmental, international organization committed to broadcast and media development. AIBD plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region.

The MRTV of the Ministry of Information became a fullfledged member of AIBD in 1997 and actively participated in training courses, meetings, seminars, conferences and online classes of AIBD.
