UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illicit trade are being effectively made in accordance with the law.

On 30 August, combined duty teams managed by the Magway Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections in Magway Township, resulting in the seizure of an unregistered vehicle and an unregistered motorbike, both valued at K5.5 million.

On 31 August, an unregistered Toyota LiteAce worth K5 million was seized in Kawthoung, with the action being taken under the Export and Import Law.

On 1 September, the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force managed inspections that led to the seizure of an unregistered Toyota Probox (valued at K5 million) in Indakaw. Additionally, 1.605 tonnes of illegal teak worth K1,412,752 were seized in Toungoo District, along with a Yutong bus (approximately K40 million) travelling from Hpa-an to Toungoo. The bus was carrying three food items valued at K5.8 million without official documents. The action was carried out under the Export and Import Law, the Forest Law, and Customs procedures.

On the same day, further inspections resulted in the seizure of 11 unregistered vehicles and 14 unregistered motorbikes worth K150.2 million in Mawlamyine and Thaton districts. A Nissan Condor truck (approximately K30 million), heading from Hpa-an to Yangon, was found to be carrying consumer goods worth K14 million that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. Additionally, food items, two consumer goods, and 18 industrial materials valued at K25.055 million were seized from the luggage of four passengers at Yangon International Airport. Two restricted chemicals worth K3.398 million were also seized from a container at MITT Port. The action was taken under the Export and Import Law and Customs procedures.

In total, from 31 August to 1 September, 39 cases were logged, resulting in the seizure of illegal goods valued at approximately K285.366 million, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
