The second meeting of the Myanmar-Russia Joint Coordination Committee on Cooperation in the Utilization of Nuclear Energy for Peaceful Purposes was held in a hybrid format on 5 February, co-chaired by Dr Aung Zeya, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology, and Mr Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director-General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation of the Russian Federation (Rosatom).
In addition to the Ministry of Science and Technology, officials from the committee member ministries – Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, Ministry of Electric Power, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Health – attended the meeting in person, while officials from Rosatom participated via video conference.
During the meeting, they discussed the development of the legal framework and infrastructure for nuclear energy, nuclear technician training and development, and cooperation in the advancement of science and nuclear technology to support the country’s long-term development and the socioeconomic prosperity of its people, and signed the meeting minutes between the two countries.
