INWA’S ancient heritage and historical sites can become tourist attractions if they are preserved, said writer and researcher Bo Shake (Yadanapura).

“If we reclaim Inwa moat, it can attract foreign and local visitors. It can become a tourist attraction if we rebuild a gate and wall turrets next to the moat. If we clean the moat, it can be as beautiful as the Mandalay Moat. It can be an archaeological park,” he said.

Students from private schools, local travellers, and foreign tourists visit Inwa on weekends and on recreational trips, and the number of tourists has increased significantly this year.

He added that if a tourist attraction can be created, the livelihood of local people such as vendors and horse-cart drivers will be better, and if more foreign tourists are interested, it will generate more foreign exchange for the country.

On 7 February, State Administration Council Chairman and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and officials inspected the maintenance conditions of the Loka Tharaphu Pagoda and MaungO brick road in ancient Inwa, Mandalay Region, and made necessary instructions.
