MALICIOUS news media have spread false claims that security forces’ actions in Nawnghkio, Moemeik and Mogok from 5 to 7 March caused 17 civilian deaths, 41 injuries and the destruction of 85 buildings.

Local authorities clarified that security forces only carried out necessary security measures based on reports from civilians about insurgents hiding in the area. They stated that insurgents have been attacking monks and civilians, burning villages and firing heavy weapons indiscriminately. The false reports aim to mislead the public and cover up insurgents’ activities by blaming security forces for the violence.
