UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, continued efforts are made to combat the illicit trade effectively by the law.

On 14 and 15 March, the combined teams impounded 22 vehicles with 18 trailers (worth approximately K1,780 million) carrying industrial materials, consumer goods and foodstuffs (valued at K666.76 million) near Hpa-an Industrial Zone of Hpa-an Township, three trucks (estimated value of K88 million) carrying foodstuffs (valued at K96.15 million) without official documents at the Mingyi Thonpa combined checkpoint in Yaksawk Township, and a Foton mini bus (estimated value of K30 million), carrying 809 kilogrammes of unfinished bracelets supposed to be mad of jade (worth K25.88 million) at the combined checkpoint on the outskirts of Taunggyi. The action was taken per Customs procedures.

Similarly, the combined on-duty teams seized two vehicles (worth approximately K60 million) and foodstuffs (valued at K7.98 million) without official documents near the Shwethanlwin Tollgate in Phayagyi. The action was carried out in line with Customs procedures.

On 16 and 17 March, the combined teams confiscated foodstuffs (valued at K136.52 million) without official documents from a warehouse in Shwehintha Ward in Kawthoung Township, and 30 barrels of illegal diesel (worth K28.5 million) near the moorings in Kadathtauk village, Thanbyuzayat Township and four unregistered vehicles and an unregistered motorbike (valued at K45 million) in Mawlamyine and Thaton districts. The action was conducted under the Petroleum and Petroleum Products Law and the Export-Import Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 67 arrests on four consecutive days from 14 to 17 March, with confiscated illegal goods worth over K2,964 million.
