The government is strictly cracking down on telecom fraud and criminal activities by cooperating with foreign countries including neighbouring countries, and systematically transferring the foreigners involved in these illegal operations.
The authorities transported 380 Chinese nationals, who entered the country via border routes illegally and committed online gambling, telecom fraud and crimes in Myawady-Maetawthalay of Kayin State, via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II on humanitarian grounds and for bilateral relations yesterday.
Minister of Security and Border Affairs of Kayin State Government, Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, and officials monitored the processes.
The handover ceremony was attended by Kayin State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, Deputy Director General Mr Liu Ning Ning from China’s Ministry of Public Security’s Criminal Investigation Department and representatives from Thailand’s Tak Province Immigration Bureau, and Myanmar officials transferred the documents to the authorities of relevant countries.
In addition, Myanmar authorities detained 256 foreign nationals who entered Maetawthalay in Myawady via illegal routes on the same day, and the officials checked the personal information and records of these detainees to repatriate them to their respective countries.
From 30 January to 19 March, a total of 7,363 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally were identified and detained. Of them, 4,571 were systematically handed over to the relevant countries via Thailand as per legal procedures, and the remaining 2,792 foreign nationals are ready for repatriation and are being well cared for.
The government uncovers the foreigners and those involved in the operations of Online Scam Centres to take effective actions and actively makes efforts to transfer the foreigners who face hardships for various reasons and foreign nationals who are the victims of human trafficking.
